Get to Know WeCare Denali
As a premier recycler of organic residuals throughout the US, WeCare Denali, LLC proudly operates compost facilities for the Department of Sanitation of New York. These facilities include state-of-the-art composting technology that allows for the management of a large volume of organics while also creating high-quality compost. The compost created there, Big Apple Compost, is sold to landscapers, site work contractors, agriculture, wholesale, and more. WeCare Denali also teams up with DSNY to ensure compost is donated to community gardens throughout the city. WeCare Denali is thrilled to sponsor the 2021 Food Waste Fair that’s providing education to initiatives and organizations that are committed to closing the loop.
Beyond Compost
While WeCare Denali prides itself on compost operations, they also have a huge focus on compost marketing. When they are working with large-scale clients such as DSNY, it's crucial that the sale and marketing of the compost is a priority to ensure that all the product is going back into the soil. If you’re a commercial compost user, engineer or landscape architect, or residential user, head to their website to find out how you can purchase Big Apple Compost.
Here are a few ways that Big Apple Compost is used:
Topdressing - Compost can be spread in a thin layer over existing turfgrass. This will improve the plant-root environment without having to tear up the ground.
Soil Amendment - Adding compost into soil will create a soil blend with a healthy amount of organic matter, organic nutrients and more.
Nursery Potting Mixture - Using compost in a potting mixture will decrease compaction, improve water retention, and provide organic, slow-release nutrients to the mix.
Synthetic Fertilizer Alternative - If applied at a proper amount over a period, compost can replace the need for synthetic fertilizers in some applications. Slow-release nutrients naturally occur in compost.
Erosion Control - Compost is an excellent medium for infiltration. In addition to improving a soil’s ability to drain water, it can bind excess nutrients or toxic particles.
Existing Soil improvement - Compost can used to improve existing soil without having to replace it. Instead of tearing up a yard and improving new topsoil, compost can be added to create the topsoil on site.
