Snow Storytimes with Commissioner Grayson

In the winter of 2020/2021, the Sanitation Foundation partnered with the New York Public Library to create Snow Storytimes, a video series in which Sanitation employees from across New York City could share their favorite wintry books with young children and families. Sanitation Workers are on the frontlines every day of the year––including throughout this global pandemic––and are in the midst of their most difficult season of all: snow season. These virtual storytimes allow New Yorkers to meet and share a story with the individuals behind DSNY’s critical and complex operations.

To close out our partnership with the NYPL, we’re excited to present Sanitation’s Commissioner Grayson reading Super Truck, which tells the story of how DSNY’s iconic garbage trucks transform into snow plows. The book, illustrated by Stephen Savage, was read aloud to Mrs. Audrey Glass’s classroom at P.S. 88 in Queens — Commissioner Grayson’s very own elementary school teacher! Mrs. Glass’s class not only got to learn about DSNY’s incredible equipment from the Commissioner himself, but they also participated in an exclusive Q&A sessions with Commissioner Grayson and Stephen Savage!

Listen to Commissioner Grayson read Super Truck!
