Module 1: NYC Waste History | Watch Party

Modules are available to view on-demand. If you prefer some company though, join us on Zoom to watch Module 1 with other Academy participants!

Learn about the gritty history of waste management in New York City, to contextualize just how important the Department of Sanitation is to the life of our metropolis. This presentation will also explore the historical, environmental, and social impacts of waste, as well as the origins of our current “throw-away society.”

Instructor: Dr. Robin Nagle, DSNY anthropologist-in-residence and clinical professor in Liberal Studies at NYU, where she teaches anthropology and environmental studies.
