About this event
Tour Earth Matter NY’s Compost Learning Center and learn about the Zero Waste Island Initiative. We will be in the midst of processing our weekly 15,000 lbs+ of NYC residential food scraps that are dropped off at GrowNYC farmers’ markets, along with Governors Island organics, generated by island visitors and vendors and blending these organics with the Island's horticultural materials such as leaves, twigs, and weeds.
Each participant must fill out this form before the event: Earth Matter NY Liability and Photo permission form
Bring a water bottle, hat, and comfortable shoes.
Tour Schedule:
8:45AM Arrive @ BMB ferry terminal in Manhattan, meet up with Earth Matter staff + board 9 AM ferry to GI. Walk to the Compost Learning Center (~15 minute walk).
9:30AM-10:45AM Introductions, orientation to the NYCCP Community Compost Build and Zero Waste Island team. Tour of the Center, group picture.
11:00AM Ferry departs for Manhattan. Ferry runs every 40 minutes.
