About this event

Much labor, energy, and love go into producing the food we eat. Respecting growing practices is crucial for the caretaking of the environment and the future of our food. This panel will highlight what individuals are doing to reduce waste at large and small farms.


Moderator: Garrett Broad, Associate Professor & Associate Chair, Fordham University, Department of Communication and Media Studies

Garrett Broad is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University. His research and teaching focuses on the food system, media, and social movements. He is the author of More Than Just Food: Food Justice and Community Change, as well as a variety of articles on food's relationship to environmental sustainability, economic equity, and the well-being of humans and animals.

Speakers include:

Riyana Razalee, Head of Business Development & Strategy, Re-Nuble

Riyana leads business development and strategy for Re-Nuble, an agtech company that transforms food waste into organic goods for soilless farms. Formerly, she co-led the development of one of Southeast Asia's largest bank's sustainable finance framework. Her other experiences include private equity and business development & regional expansion strategies. Riyana completed an MSc in Sustainability Management from Columbia University. She considers herself as an outdoor activity lover, avid cyclist, and indigenous and intercultural wisdom appreciator.

Nicole Baum, Director of Business Development & Partnerships, Gotham Greens

Gotham Greens is on a mission to transform how and where fresh produce is grown by creating new ways to farm, produce local food, revitalize communities and innovate for a more sustainable future. Since joining Gotham Greens in 2014, Nicole has helped lead the company’s marketing and sales efforts, bringing a sense of collaboration, innovation and authenticity to Gotham Greens' communities and partnerships.

Rhys Williams, Executive Director, The Good Acre

Rhys understands what it takes to grow and distribute local food because he has worked in almost every aspect of the food system. With over 20 years as an organic farmer and almost a decade working as a wholesale buyer for Twin Cities-based Co-Op Partners, a certified organic produce wholesaler.

Rhys believes that giving a voice to and creating market opportunities for independent, minority, and immigrant farmers is key to strengthening the Twin Cities food system. As Executive Director of The Good Acre he has overseen the development of programs that embody our mission of connecting and strengthening farmers, food makers, and communities through good food.
